What is the purpose? To honor the Earth by identifying, sharing, and celebrating local, sustainable practices in the Greater Newburyport region.

Who is involved? All residents, businesses, and organizations of the five communities of Amesbury, Newbury, Newburyport, Salisbury, and West Newbury.

When is Earth Day? While Earth Day itself is marked on April 22, we are holding celebratory events between April 17 - 26.

What do you mean by we? The Greater Newburyport Eco Collaborative is producing the Earth Day celebration; which is an umbrella organization serving as a partnership between the City of Newburyport, the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and the Greater Newburyport Environmental Network.

What events will be held? An ongoing calendar of events demonstrates the participation of many residents, businesses, and organizations across the five ‘burys. With its sponsors and Earth-friendly members, the Eco Collaborative is promoting two weeks of activities, including:

Flower Market, Saturday, April 18, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain date on Sunday, April 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) will include flower growers, an Eco info tent, public mural painting, muslin painting, and musicians. @ Bartlett Mall, Newburyport

What’s That Bird? Monday, April 20, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. (and 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.) Bring your binoculars and learn about birds from avian guides. @ Joppa Flats Education Center. [Details]

Eco Awards Ceremony, tentatively Wednesday, April 22, 4 p.m. will include presentations of green art and certificates to individuals and associations to thank them for pro-environmental initiatives. @ Millyard, Amesbury

Newburyport Literary Festival, Saturday, April 24-25. [Details]

Maudslay Dirty DuEarthlon, Sunday, April 26, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. includes an age 14-and-up team relay of trail running and biking, plus obstacle courses. @ Maudslay State Park, Newburyport

Native American Earth Blessing, Sunday, April 26, 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. @ Maudslay State Park (atop the root cellar)

Earth Expo, Sunday, April 26, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., showcasing an inspiring exhibition of local green artisans and organic food vendors. @ Maudslay Arts Center Barn, Maudslay State Park
