Over 12 interested residents and business owners came together for the first community meeting last month to brainstorm events.
Among other attendees, we saw Minister Nancy Haverington of the First Church of Newbury, Headmaster Marty Doggett of The Governor’s Academy, co-owners Blake Harris and Kevin Murphy of Newburyport Pedicab, Erin Stack of the Green Artists League, and two students from the Newburyport High School environmental club.
We heard many ideas, including enthusiastic dialogues to hold pre-teen activities and educational learning through the senses and art, such as hand painting.
Some suggested the high school environmental club could mentor elementary school students on going green.
Several people agreed a kite making and kite flying day could be fun.
Others suggested contacting 92.5 WXRV-FM “The River” to participate and/or promote.
Headmaster Doggett volunteered the use of his campus for movie screenings and panel discussions.
The Pedicab owners suggested convening a “Bike Maintenance & Tune-up Weekend” in collaboration with Riverside Cycles.
Could we get Pete Seeger to play?

While in the area for Earth Day activities, please consider attending free author readings and lectures of the 4th annual
